Its not uncommon to see Japanese imports here , hell this photo was taken from an imported Civic but I have never seen a car with a plate like this.
Now the stickers and on the rear window , boot and the fact that its a Lafesta are all clear signs this was originally driven around the streets of Japan
But I am unfamiliar with that plate
Anyone provide any info on it ? It looks japanese but with english characters

If I remember correctly Japan issues 'tourist' plates for its citizens travelling abroad with their cars so maybe this is one of those.
EDIT: Here's a copy paste from wikipedia
Because the Japanese writing system , particularly the kana , is unique to Japan, standard-issue Japanese license plates are considered unacceptable for international travel. If a motorist wishes to bring their vehicle with them while traveling abroad, the Ministry of Transport will issue to them a plate with the hiragana and kanji scripts replaced with roman letters.

Could be a dealer plate or diplomat. Unlikely that a diplomat would have.... whatever that thing is, but still. Do you live in Dublin? I visited there may of 2012, loved it.

Why wouldn't a diplomat have a minivan? They usually bring whatever car they own with them.

I was thinking high-ranking diplomats, and thought it was a much smaller car than it evidently is. My bad.

The car and its owner are visiting from Japan. Some countries issue a special licence plate like that for cars that are travelling overseas. I've seen some bangers with a U.S. licence plate with a NZ licence plate on front.

I do live in Dublin. Most Diplomats that I have seen actually drive very weird cars here, There is french Diplomat that drives an old Renault Clio.

This begs the ultimate question. Why would they go to the trouble of brining a small Japanese wagon to Ireland.
That is pretty impressive.

Oh awesome. That is a hell of a lot of trouble to visit Ireland though !

I figure it would make sense if you were doing a massive European trip. Cheaper and less worry than sorting out a hire car for the whole time you're there?

They are probably visiting many countries in Europe.

What's it like living there? The day I landed there I decided to start saving money to go back.

Looked like plenty of cars while I was there, haha! I loved the arrows on the ground telling you which way to look for traffic. Also, the toyota corolla Levin's everywhere.... And the EuDM dubs... and the.....
And everyone was nice. Except a few of the other tourists. And the Lithuanians that showed up to the hostel.

Maybe you should stop talking to Rory. Every time you talk to him, he ignores you. It happened like 4 times.
